WG Crias
Graeme Dickson
Warralinga Gorge Stud Stock was formed as a new alpaca breeding enterprise in 2003 when the principals of Warralinga Alpaca Stud (Lyn & Graeme Dickson) and Gorge Alpacas (Julie & Richard Bird) joined forces to collectively purchase a number of the best huacaya females on offer at the dispersal of the famous stud, Blue Grass Alpacas (see Donor Females).
Warralinga Gorge embarked on a breeding programme, which produced the new stud's first female offspring Warralinga-Gorge Star Attraction and Warralinga-Gorge Santa Rosa, who won many blue ribbons and championships at major shows in their first show season, including the National Show and Sydney Royal.

These females, together with the original Blue Grass females, then formed the basis of the donor females used in the Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer (MOET) work with Dr. Jane Vaughan, who is recognised as the world leader in this area of alpaca advanced reproductive technology, commencing in late 2005.

The combined wisdom and experience in alpaca breeding that Julie & Richard, Graeme & Lyn bring to this enterprise is formidable. Their quest for knowledge, new information and the world's best alpacas has taken them to Peru, USA, UK, Canada, Europe and New Zealand, and is constantly being updated. As well as involvement with the AAA, they are also members of SRS® Alpacas Australia and their stud stock are enrolled in the (AGE) Across-herd Genetic Evaluation programme to maximise the use of available scientific breeding principles.

Warralinga Gorge (WG) now owns about 60 alpacas in its own right, including many ET recipient females, and is fortunate to be able to take advantage of the Birds' higher altitude country property, Wavertree, at Meadow Flat on the western side of the Blue Mountains. Here a number of alpacas can be managed on a rotational basis, allowing them to graze and grow out in a natural environment, seasons and rainfall permitting.

In addition to the WG alpaca numbers, the individual studs, Warralinga and Gorge, own a combined total of over 120 alpacas that are managed with care and attention to detail, with emphasis on the production of fine, soft-handling lustrous alpaca fleece, grown on structurally sound frames. Watch this space for the latest news on the next expected drop of WG ET crias!
